The year has really gotten away from us! I can't even say that we accomplished much! Overnight we hit soaring 100 degree plus days and saw a few days clear up at 108-109! Couple that with thick, ash filled smoke from an almost 200,000 acre, lightening caused fire back behind our Butte and we took refuge in the house most of the summer!
I judged a few 4H dairy goat shows and Round Robin Showmanship (or master showmanship) competitions. I am still not really comfortable with oral reasons but feel it is SO important for these kids to show to someone who KNOWS dairy goats and not just a "jack of all" livestock judge - they work just as hard as the market species kids and deserve knowledgeable judges. I encourage all breeders to step up and judge or recommend judges for these youth shows - we can't let these kids get discouraged - they are our future!
We wrapped up our show season with the Western Idaho Fair - we had good, solid placings across the board with our girls! Cherry Butte SF Cady - 5 years old with 5 freshenings was Reserve Champion Sr. Lamancha, Odeon Faith - 4 years old with 3 freshenings was Reserve Champion Sr. Sable, and Cherry Butte NHG Pearl - first freshening yearling was Reserve Champion Recorded Grade. Showing 6 "Lables" we bred, we were also named Premiere Breeder for Recorded Grades.
The bucks are big ole fat boys ready to get to work - be sure to visit our breeding plan page and happy fall!
